System Overview and Key Components

Based on Lesson Plan module 1 & Instructor Guide module 1.

1. Navigator

The Navigator attaches directly to a firefighter’s helmet using a quick-mount system. It consists of two primary modules:

  • Power Module (PM) — houses the power supply and onboard computer.

  • Vision Module (VM) — includes the thermal camera, projector, and HUD (Heads-Up Display).

Key functions:

  • Mount/dismount in under 20 seconds.

  • Power on/off or hard reset using side controls.

  • Toggle through five vision modes (Edge/Thermal, Thermal, Edge, Edge/Hotspot, Triple Overlay).

  • Send and acknowledge communication signals (PAR, EVAC, Mayday, F2F).

  • Adjust HUD brightness and check battery/connection status.

  • Built-in taillights display system status and alerts (green = operational, red = Mayday, etc.).

2. Command Console

A tablet-based command and control interface for officers and ICs.

Capabilities:

  • Create and manage incidents.

  • Attach apparatus and track individual resources.

  • Monitor live video feeds from all active Navigators.

  • Send tactical messages and receive acknowledgements.

  • Toggle between live feeds and “forensics” playback.

  • Record and review tactical milestones.

3. Operations Center

A desktop application for administrative and review functions.

Capabilities:

  • Review incident recordings and video feeds.

  • Add or edit apparatus, users, and devices.

  • Assign helmets and seating positions.

  • Manage software updates and inventory.

  • Generate reports and submit feedback directly to Qwake.

4. Command Hierarchy

C-THRU integrates into your existing fireground structure:

  • Firefighters / Operators – deploy and operate the Navigator.

  • Company Officers / ICs – monitor operations via the Command Console.

  • Training Division / Admins – review and manage data in the Operations Center.

5. Safety Reminder

  • C-THRU enhances—but never replaces—core firefighter training and survival skills.
  • Always maintain situational awareness, follow department SOPs, and use C-THRU as a decision-support tool, not a substitute for standard tactics.
