After-Action Review (AAR) Workflow

Overview

The After-Action Review (AAR) process in the Operations Center provides a structured method to evaluate performance and lessons learned from both live incidents and training sessions.

1. Accessing an Incident

  1. Log in to the Operations Center.

  2. Navigate to Incidents → View All.

  3. Select the desired incident by date or name.

  4. Choose Playback to begin review.

2. Playback Controls

During playback, you can:

  • Scrub through the timeline by dragging the playback bar.

  • Switch between multiple video feeds.

  • Toggle between Thermal, Edge, and Combined views.

  • Enable Milestone markers (entry, victim located, knockdown, EVAC, etc.).

  • View synchronized communication messages and timestamps.

3. Conducting the Review

Recommended AAR format:

  1. Facts: What happened?

  2. Observations: What worked well?

  3. Challenges: What didn’t work as expected?

  4. Recommendations: What will be done differently next time?

Encourage open dialogue and avoid assigning blame. The goal is learning, not criticism.

4. Tagging and Notes

  • Add tags to specific video moments (e.g., “Visibility loss,” “HUD adjustment”).

  • Add comments to capture instructor feedback.

  • Download clips for training reinforcement.

5. Reporting and Follow-Up

  1. Summarize key findings in the AAR Report section.

  2. Export report as PDF or CSV.

  3. Share results with:

    • Department leadership

    • Training division

    • Qwake Support (if technical feedback is required)

6. Feedback Submission

Use the Submit Feedback or Help Ticket feature to send findings directly to Qwake.

Include:

  • Incident ID

  • Summary of findings

  • Any hardware/software issues observed

This ensures rapid review and potential improvements in future firmware or workflows.

Summary

Structured AARs close the loop between field operations and product evolution.

They reinforce training, highlight performance improvements, and enhance firefighter safety across every deployment.
